Dark Divine Nail Polish

I won this bottle from the lovely Andrea of So Many Books, So Little Time. I have always been a voracious reader. I've worked in bookstores and libraries and I rarely leave the house without a book. You never know when things might get boring. Thanks again Andrea for your contribution to the book blogger world!

I'm not a pink kind of girl in general. The closest thing I have to pink in my polish collection right now is Sinful Dream On & Sinful Vacation Time. I suppose Dark Divine isn't really that pink either. More of a pinkish-purple? I LOVE this color on me! Too bad this is a mini bottle that was made to promote a young adult novel. Can't buy it anywhere!
It turns out this polish is just a shade brighter than some of the packaging of a very popular nail polish remover. Here's a picture for comparison.

Does anyone know of a good dupe for this? I would love to have one!

Toma Purple Mist To Grey Mist & A French Manicure

I've never posted NINE pictures of any polish before, but this one deserves it! Toma Mood Changing Purple Mist to Grey Mist is one of the most unique colors I've ever seen! I have no idea how to describe it so I'll just let you look at the pretty pictures. Gorgeous!

I did a french manicure using China Glaze LOL. I didn't end up liking the color combination as much as I thought I would though
.

I would buy this in a heartbeat if I could find it anywhere!!! What do you think ladies, should we petition Mad Beauty, who took over Toma, to bring this color back?

Toma Forest Green to Teal Mood Changing and Blackboard Nail Art

This is another Toma that I borrowed from my friend Kim Jantz. It's says mood changing on the bottle and it does change with heat but nothing like the recent Claire's polishes. The name really says it all with this one, sometimes it looks forest green and sometimes it looks more teal. It ALWAYS looked drop dead gorgeous though! I can't find anywhere to buy this one online or I would be getting it immediately. If you love green this one is very unique! Most of the time it looked more forest green on me but I tried to capture the more teal side in the next pictures.

Man, looking at these pictures again makes me want to go put it on right now! The color really reminded be of a blackboard from elementary school, so I decided to write some of the alphabet in white "chalk". I used my trusty Migi Nail Art Pen for the letters.

Awesome. Then I tried China Glaze Matte Magic on top and I think it looks even more like a blackboard. I love it when the manicure that you've thought up in your head actually turns out the way you imagined!

I have one more Toma to show you and it's also a real stunner! I'll post it sometime soon. If anyone knows where to get these old Tomas, please let me know! I've tried 3 and they are some of the most gorgeous colors I've ever seen!

Unknown Toma, Blue Leopard Nails & Awards

This is a Toma that I borrowed from my friend Kim Jantz. No label to identify the color, but I know it's from 2000-2006. She did graphic design for a beauty supplier during those years and has tons of OPI's, CNDs from that time period. Were there any amazing colors from that time period that I should go hunt for at her house?
This is a lovely navy blue shimmer that never looks black. Very pretty!

I'm not really into leopard print but I hadn't used that Konad image (M57) before so I just went for it. I kind of love it! I used Maybelline Matte Blue for stamping.

I don't think Mr. Acorn approved though. I don't know why, but this picture cracks me up!

Thanks to all of the lovely ladies from around the world who have tagged me lately! Here's a list of their blogs. I love finding new nail polish blogs!!!
Biba's Beauty Corner
R3 Daily
Amused Polish
How Doth the Little Crocodile
Mai Senza Smalto
Konad & Me
Thanks again ladies! I wish you all many more new readers!

Essie Mint Candy Apple

Essie Mint Candy apple is what I was wearing in my last post about our current giveaway. Ashley bought this one for me a few weeks ago and I think it's gorgeous. This is only the second mint color that I've tried. The first was a Tic Tac that ended up being too yellow and I hated it. I think it's amazing how two polishes that are relatively similar can end up on opposite ends of the love/hate spectrum.
I broke my first nail today! It was shockingly upsetting. My nails were the longest they've ever been by far until I trimmed them down a bit a few days ago. The break didn't end up being as bad as I first feared. Once I got home and applied some polish to the broken part and evened it out, it looked much better. I don't post my pictures in any kind of order by the way. Just kind of whatever order I end up going through and fixing my pictures. Do most of you post in order? I think the answer is yes. Also I can't decide if I should label this one a green or a blue. I'm going with blue for now.

Better For Grownups Organic Cotton Reusable Face Rounds Giveaway! Ends 4/27. (Closed)

I saw Better For Grownups Organic Cotton Reusable Face Rounds on Outblush and wondered if they would be good for removing nail polish as an alternative to regular cotton balls. The Better for Grownups line is actually a spin-off of Better for Babies so I sent them an email asking if the Cotton Rounds had ever been tested for this application. Nail polish removal is NOT what they are designed for just to be perfectly clear! I received an enthusiastic reply almost immediately and they kindly offered to send me some of their slightly imperfect (yet still lovely) Cotton Rounds to try! I LOVE companies that are not only responsive, but gracious to potential customers & I know you do too.

So I received my rounds very quickly and eagerly tried them out for nail polish removal. Sadly, I didn't really like them for this purpose. First, they are so pretty that I didn't want to ruin them. Second, while they actually worked great for removing my polish, they became either sticky or crusty afterward because of the nail polish. I tried rinsing them out immediately and I tried washing them in the washing machine which helped some but not enough for me to be able to reuse them.
I thought "Oh well, it was a nice thought." and then after sending the results of my little experiment to Better For Babies, I didn't really think about them again for a while.

Now I have a confession; I don't have a regular skin care routine! I've never had a lot of money to experiment with products and my skin has always been pretty good as long as it gets some sunscreen and some moisturizer. I even skip washing my face sometimes (the horror, I know!) for a very simple reason. I hate getting out a new wash cloth every morning and every night! After a few days of regular washing my bathroom looks like this!

I have to let the wash cloths dry before I put them in the dirty laundry and I know you're supposed to use a clean one every time. This has always been one of those embarrassing little things that left me wondering "How on earth do other people solve this problem?" I know some people just use their hands, but my skin is on the dry side and I feel like I need a cloth for exfoliation.
One day I remembered the Better For Grownups Organic Cotton Reusable Face Rounds and it was like a light bulb went off above my head. I had dismissed them since they couldn't be a replacement for the way I use cotton balls. But they are quite obviously perfect for washing my face! After all, they are essentially pretty little washcloths that come with a net bag for storage after I've used them. No longer will my bathroom be constantly strewn with washcloths in various stages of the drying process! Woohoo! Now I keep my used Cotton Rounds in the nifty net bag that they come with, neatly out of the way on a hook in my bathroom.

I emailed Better For Grownups again last week to express my gratitude and to see if they would be interested in sponsoring a giveaway for my lovely readers. Once again the response was swift and enthusiastic! One lucky reader will win their very own set of Better For Grownups Organic Cotton Reusable Face Rounds! And guess what? It's open to all of my readers worldwide! YAY!
Here's a little more information about Better For Babies from their website.
REUSABLE - Because if we keep adding trash to the planet, our kids will run out of room to enjoy it.
FAIR TRADE - Because farmers deserve a fair wage and safe working conditions, don't you think?
ORGANIC - Because conventional cotton uses more pesticides than any other crop (and we'd hate to rub your nose in it!)
Our cotton is certified organic and sustainable by Control Union Certifications. It is Certified Fair Trade by FLO (Fairtrade Labeling Organizations International).
And a few more details about the prize. The winner will receive a reloadable dispensing box containing 30 rounds and a little net bag in which to wash them as pictured below.

The dispensing box is so cool! From the site.
Our corrugated boxes are made locally from Water Resistant Cardboard which means they can sit in your bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, etc and be used over and over again. When you are done with them, they are fully recyclable or compostable (and worms love cardboard).
Better For Grownups boxes were specifically designed to minimize packaging and are printed with water based inks using the latest technology using large format aqueous direct print for efficient and minimal use of materials, labor and energy.
And now even more good news! Better For Grownups is offering all of my readers a 10% discount on your whole purchase. Enter CNPBFG at checkout to receive your discount. Expires 4/30/2010.

80's Prom Fashion Show Nails or What I Did Friday Night!

My friends Lynn & Robbo put on a huge 80's Prom in Tulsa every year and this time they asked me to be in the fashion show. I'm not a big fan of the 80's as a whole, but I love Lynn & Robbo, so I agreed. It ended up being super fun! The fashion show had 4 segments based on 80's movies. Mannequin, Labyrinth, Say Anything & Lost Boys. I got to be a vampire! Yay! My outfit was over the top as you can see below and I decided to do my nails to match the stripes.

I used American Apparel Cotton & Hassid and a tip I picked up from one of my new favorite blogs, Blue Tape & Nail Tips!! I was in a hurry and nervous about how the night would go, so I wasn't very careful, but they looked great anyway. I cut strips of blue painters tape into fairly uniform strips that I then applied to my nails after the Cotton had dried. Then I just used Hassid for the black stripes. Super simple! You really have to go check out Blue Tape & Nail Tips if you haven't already. Look at her Easter nails!
I love getting dressed up! I had a great time and even got nominated Prom Queen!
Tonight's the last night to enter my Point Blank Design Print Giveaway! Here's her fantastic Dracula print!

Zoya Gaia: My #1 Favorite Nail Polish & Spexton Jewelry That I Won!

I'm sure many of you won't understand why Zoya Gaia is my #1 favorite but I'll try to explain. I took tons of pictures yet I still don't think I managed to truly capture the beauty of Gaia. The first photo was taken early in the day and the rest right at sunset.
Zoya Gaia is a soft white with a drop dead gorgeous gold microshimmer. I used four coats here, which is more than I normally like, but this one is well worth the effort! It's a little sheer, which I don't usually find appealing, but it somehow creates a subtle french manicure look.
It looks great with every outfit! It makes me feel fresh and clean and healthy! If I could only wear one nail polish for the rest of time I would choose Zoya Gaia without a second thought! Don't get me wrong, I love greens and blues and all sorts of crazy nails, but when you ask me to choose a favorite, I think about how wearable my options are, and this wins hands down.

I won this amazing ring from Chic Galleria & Spexton Jewelry! It's my first and only diamond! Here's a link to the ring I chose.
All of Spexton's pieces are made by fellow Tulsans, Greg & Nate and have been worn by many celebrity's! You can see pictures on their Facebook. They are supremely talented and I wish them much future success!!!

I love the suggestions you ladies have been giving for the Point Blank Design Giveaway! Really great ideas! You still have a couple of days to enter if you haven't yet done so!

Sation Midtown Haze

Sation Midtown Haze is a super dark red wine jelly that never looks black! It's kind of streaky & probably nothing unique, but I love it!! I hardly have any nudes or pinks or reds! This is 2 coats, easy application. The first picture was taken outside. The others were taken inside with my new studio background and lights.
I can't believe those are my nails! I NEVER thought I would have nice, longish nails. The background is one of my textured concrete stepping stones! Isn't it cool!

Enter my giveaway if you haven't already done so! Open Worldwide!! You win the print of your choice $20 & under from Point Blank Design's Etsy Shop!
