Happy Sloth Necklace & A French Manicure

I won the Happy Sloth Necklace from the Steals, Deals and Heels giveaway that I posted in one of my Giveaway Roundups! I love him so much!! This necklace is available from MaryMary Handmade on Etsy. Everything in her shop is unbelievably adorable!!!! Here's a link to her blog as well. Look at this amazing Pinwheel Ring that actually spins!!!
I decided to make some sort of tree nails for my happy sloth. I haven't named him yet. Any suggestions? I tried a couple of different ideas for some tree nails but ended up just going with a simple French Manicure design. I used China Glaze Chocdisiac for the base and Sinful San Francisco for the tips.

Nails To Match My New Bag

Yet another reason why I enter giveaways! I won this LRG bag from Highsobiety. I've always loved military inspired fashions and this gorgeous bag is no exception.

Ashley & I still haven't acquired a perfect army green polish which makes us sad in our hearts. I used Ashley's OPI You Don't Know Jacques for the base color. Santee Midtown Haze, Color Club Feel the Beat and Maybelline Khaki Fringe for the stripes. Then I used China Glaze Matte Magic over everything. I LOVE the end result.

China Glaze New Day

I picked this up in our favorite crazy nail polish store (one for me and one for our giveaway). China Glaze New Day is a dusty with a silver cap but I can't find it anywhere on the China Glaze website. Anybody know more about this one? I've been looking for cornflower blues lately so I was immediately drawn to this one when I saw it in the dusty bin. I would call it a cornflower blue frost. The formula was a little difficult and this is three coats.

Have you entered all three of our giveaways yet? Ashley & I worked hard to make the instructions clear and easy to follow. What do you think of the form? We went with this method for a lot of reasons. It protects you email address and it automatically puts each entry into a google spreadsheet that I can sort anyway I wish. This makes finding cheaters much simpler and also greatly simplifies using a random number generator to pick the winner since each entry is already in a numbered spreadsheet.

Nails to Match My New Boots

This is why I enter blog giveaways! I won this amazing pair of Sorel boots from the lovely Karen Vitt & her blog The Neat Sheet. These things have already made my life easier. I can wear them when I'm mixing my concrete and then just hose them off when I'm done instead of ruining endless pairs shoes. Thanks Karen!

Tulsa gets a lot of thunderstorms. Wally & I were outside playing the other day when the wind started up.

I decided to paint my nails to match my new boots. I used China Glaze Chocodisiac for the base, American Apparel Cotton & a Migi Nail Art Pen for the stripes.

Maybelline Gold Aluminum

This is one of the four Maybelline polishes up for grabs in our giveaway! There are now links to the other three on the giveaway post. This was very easy to apply after a couple of drops of thinner. I could get away with one coat if I was careful. I actually like this gold with my skintone and this polish works great with Konad!

I got these as a present and I am just not in the habit of wearing perfume (even though I asked for these) so I am passing them on to you.

The MAC Royal Assets Metallic Eyes palette & the Kevyn Aucoin Expert Lip Tint in Sucara are both things I bought for myself but when I looked at the colors, I knew I wouldn't use them. I meant to return them but I never got around to it, so they've been sitting tucked away in a closet in their original packaging since then. The palette is seriously gorgeous! I'm not any kind of a makeup expert but I know this was a limited edition and they go for around $50 if you can find them on ebay. Do any of you know a site that has swatches of these that I can link to?

This was my first Konad plate & I got bored with it very quickly. I'm not very patient so lining up the french tips just didn't work out for me. This is the only item in the giveaway that is used but it is still in great shape.

Sinful San Francisco & Mardi Gras Nails

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

This is 2 coats of Sinful San Francisco. I could have used a third coat but I knew I was just doing this as the base for my Mardi Gras nails so I left it at two. Very pretty emerald shimmer/glitter but not a color I will be wearing regularly. I'll probably keep it around for holiday nails unless I can find a one coat green shimmer.

This manicure looked so much cooler in my brain! It turned out ok but it was such a pain in the ass that I kind of hated it before I even finished. I love Lacquer Laine's swoop manicures and thought the technique would look great with traditional Mardi Gras colors. I was defeated by my rather small stash. I don't have any one coat golds or greens! I just painted my nails green with Sinful San Francisco and then tried to freehand the gold with the brush part of my gold Migi Nail Art polish. It wasn't opaque so I had to go over it again and I made a mess! The gold started building up a yucky ridge before I figured out that i could paint the gold all the way to the ends of my nails instead of just trying to keep it in a narrow stripe. Next time I try this I need one coat wonders or some masking tape! Oh well, lesson learned. I used Sinful Let's Talk for the purple.

My First Franken - Muddy Waters

This was so fun! I have been setting aside polishes that I don't work for me in anticipation of a day of mixing them up to see what happens. Here's my first attempt and I'm pretty pleased with result. I mixed this turquoise shimmer with Sinful Big Daddy. I knew these were complimentary colors so they would probably make a brown, but I didn't anticipate such an interesting result. I decided to name it Muddy Waters. This ended up being a nice dark mushroom color with a strong turquoise shimmery flash. I certainly don't have anything even close to this in my little collection. I think you could achieve a similar result by mixing any two complimentary colors. Maybe a yellow creme with a purple shimmer would give you a mushroom with purple flash. Green shimmer & a red creme might make a mushroom with green shimmer. Get out your unwanteds and start mixing up some mushroom shimmers! Let me know if you try it out!

Here is my second Valentine's manicure. I used Muddy Waters as a base and my Migi Nail Art Pens for the hearts. I got the idea from Steph at Nail Juice. I call my version Valentine's Day Blues.

Bee Mine Valentines Manicure

I can't believe I did this! I used Sally Hansen White Out (which I don't recommend) for the base & the amazing Migi Nail Art Pens that I won from Painted Lady Fingers. I could never accomplish this with a brush but the Migi Pens are like drawing with a henna bottle which I can do in my sleep! I'll post pictures of my time as a henna artist someday.

Maybelline Red & Bronze Aluminum & A Giveaway Roundup

These are 2 more from my Dollar Tree haul. Maybelline Red Aluminum & Bronze Aluminum were a little thick and hard to work with. They are both okay colors but not exciting enough to make it into my regular rotation. Orly - Enchanted Forest and Mirror Mirror

These two polishes come from Orly's Once Upon a Time... collection from last fall.

Enchanted Forest is a dark green creme. I thought this shade was going to be a bit lighter than it is. It looked too close to black most of the time on the nail. Still a nice color, just not what I was looking for.


Mirror Mirror is a light grey creme, with a slightly blue tone.



Here it is against a grey skirt of mine. You can see the blue tone to it better here.

This is one of the only polishes that April & I both purchased. Here is April wearing it with Konad plate M63.

I enjoyed this collection from Orly. If I'd had the money I would have bought them all (Minus pixie dust. I love cremes!).
